SCOBY

This is a merchandise concept that uses a secondary product in the production of kombucha. The product itself is a DIY kit with a piece of scoby (a yeast fungus) that lets the consumer create their own kombucha.

Process

Background

We were tasked with creating a product based on either beer or kombucha-making for a small brewery. The product needed to utilize assets outside of the brewery’s normal range. In this case, instead of branding a kombucha we decided to put the production itself in the hands of the customer.

Solution

The result is a DIY project that also highlights the fact that a scoby is a living organism. This fact has been emphasized by leaning into the ”potable pet”-concept. A living organism that produces a product for the customer to enjoy.
